Elina Svitolina, a world tennis star, No.1 in Ukraine and No.3 globally, founded a charitable foundation and started projects to open the doors of big sports for young athletes.
Unfortunately, Ukrainian sport is not only about outstanding achievements and world records but also about systemic problems with financing and sports infrastructure development. Keeping in mind these conditions, the support of beginning athletes is vital because soon, they will represent our country at international championships and prestigious tennis tournaments.
The Elina Svitolina Foundation gives comprehensive support to young tennis players and has already started implementing its projects in Ukraine.
Thus, in September, the Foundation opened a tennis camp for children. Of 400 people who wanted to participate in it, they chose 20 most perspective ones and organised training, master-classes, training, and other events. According to the results of the camp, the organisers selected the first four young tennis players to take part in the Foundation’s programs; between them are Nastia Cherniakova (Kamianske), Yelyzaveta Kotlyar (Dnipro), Maksym Kalabyshka (Ivano-Frankivsk) and Oleksandr Vysochenko (Nova Kakhovka).
Elina Svitolina will take these children under her patronage and develop individual programs. In addition, the fund will organise the training of the selected young players in international tennis academies and support their participation in international tournaments. Also, high-class specialists will help them and provide them with the best sports equipment. All selected participants were born in 2007.
Other sports camp participants are also very talented and have great potential. As a result, they will participate in the foundation’s programs in the future.
A gala dinner will mark the foundation’s opening with the owner of the fund and her famous guests, during which participants will be able to support the initiatives of the newly created project. The gala dinner will be held on November 23, 2019, at 19.00 in the country complex “Equides Club” (Kyiv region, Lisnyky village, Vyshneva street, 36).
The Elina Svitolina Foundation will provide scholarships and grants to gifted athletes, pay for their education in international tennis academies and participation in international tournaments. Also, the fund will organise sports camps, children’s tennis camps, children’s competitions, tennis development and assistance in equipping youth. In addition, the foundation plans to build tennis courts in different cities in Ukraine.
“My goal is to pass on my knowledge and experience and help young athletes get to big sport. It is crucial to notice gifted children and help them reach their full potential, and support them on their way to future victories. That is the goal of our foundation”, says Elina Svitolina.
The press breakfast dedicated to the foundation’s projects was held at the Hilton 5-star hotel. It is located not far from the National Botanic Garden, St. Volodymyr Cathedral, Sofia Square and Independence Square. The hotel has 262 comfortable rooms and 11 conference rooms, which one can use for training, meetings, presentations and conferences.
